HA6 - Task 6 - Evaluation

I think that my work came out surprisingly well for this.

The 3D work was time-consuming but it was rather easy once I got the general hang of it and all the work I produced looked pretty good.
The software could be a little finicky at time, usually with normal's facing the wrong way, but i overcame the problems.
I could have completed the work sooner if not for the mess that was the college transfer.

HA6 - Task 5 - Presentation

HA6 - Task 4 - Production

It was time consuming but relatively easy to make this basic revolver design.
I used 2 images of a revolver (front and side) to get the general shape and then bent, mirrored and connected the side I made to make a full revolver.

This one would have been easy, if I hadn't had my classroom changed 3 times.
I made 2 cubes and removed a single face off of each, I then inserted cylinders to act as the cigarettes.

This one was also easy.
Like the lid of the cigarettes I used a cube with a face removed, for the main body i extruded the top part out of a cube and added a cylinder as the flint wheel thing.

I made it the rough shape of a gun, like a holster is.
I literally just got a plane, made it the rough shape of my revolver, mirrored and connected it and then added the straps.

HA6 - Task 2 – Schedule

HA6 - Task 1 – Reference Research

Setting 03 – 1940s Hospital
Set in a 1940s era American hospital. US soldiers returning from Japan have brought back a mysterious, but deadly virus which has pushed the health system to breaking point. An investigation ensues.
Character 03 – Mitchell ‘Mitch’ Deforest
He is a typical chain-smoking private investigator working in Los Angeles until the disease hits. Mitch has a rather scruffy and unhealthy appearance. Aloof and laconic, medium-build and height, dark hair, blue eyes, suit-wearing with five o’clock shadow.
Equipment 03 -
Revolver and holster, cigarettes and Zippo lighter.
Starting Point References 03 -
Raymond Chandler (Philip Marlow), Chinatown (Jack Nicholson), LA Confidential, LA Noire.

HA7 - Task 6 – Constraints

What constraints are involved in working within a 3D environment - polygon count, file size and rendering time?

3D takes up far more resources than something 2D.
A 2D box takes up 4 edges, an extremely low poly 3D box takes up at-least 12 edges, 3x as many. All 2D shapes also have one face, while our low poly 3D box would have 6 faces minimum, which is 6x more.

More polygons means a larger file size, which makes storing the project more difficult, and also means a longer rendering time, which leaves you unable to properly use the computer for longer periods as it's using most/all of it's power to render.

Rendering time is possibly the most important issue to deal with as no one can use the computer that is rendering until the rendering is finished and saved which can be a real hassle when there is a full class who need all the computers.
